ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT to Artifactum

We’ve connected and tested Artifactum with ChatGPT Plus. Add the custom app in ChatGPT on the web, then use Artifactum to save and find files. Managed workspaces may require an administrator to enable Developer mode or approve the app.

Before you start

  • Your private vault address from your setup email, such as https://your-name.mcp.artifactum.ai/.
  • The OAuth client ID and any setup details supplied with your vault. They identify the sign-in app; they are not your Artifactum access key.
  • ChatGPT web. OpenAI currently documents custom MCP apps as web-only. A workspace admin may need to enable custom apps or grant you access.

ChatGPT Plus works with Artifactum. You can connect the custom MCP app and use the available Artifactum tools from ChatGPT. Setup begins on the web; managed workspace administrators may control Developer mode or app access. See OpenAI’s Developer mode and MCP apps guide for current controls.

Enable Developer mode

  1. Open chatgpt.com in a browser and sign in.
  2. Open Settings → Apps → Advanced settings and enable Developer mode, if that option is available. In a managed workspace, an owner/admin may first need to allow custom apps under workspace settings. Some accounts can enable it as part of Apps → Create.
  3. If ChatGPT asks you to verify your identity or complete a security check, finish that prompt. OpenAI’s current MCP setup guide does not list MFA/2FA as a universal prerequisite; MFA is an account-security setting and may be requested by your account or workspace. See the OpenAI MFA guide.

Create the Artifactum app

  1. Go to Settings → Apps → Create (or Workspace settings → Apps → Create if you are an admin). The Plugins directory is for installing available workflows; custom MCP app creation is under Apps.
  2. Enter a name such as Artifactum and paste the private vault address we sent. Do not substitute https://mcp.artifactum.ai/ unless it is your assigned address.
  3. Choose OAuth. In the advanced authentication settings, choose User-defined OAuth client if that is the method listed in your setup email.
  4. Copy and paste the OAuth client ID from the email. Leave the client secret blank and set token endpoint authentication to None when those fields are shown. Leave the default scopes unchanged unless your setup email says otherwise.
  5. Select Scan Tools. If ChatGPT opens a sign-in window, sign in to the Artifactum account associated with this vault and approve access. Wait for the scan to finish, then select Create.
  6. For a personal app, check Settings → Apps → Enabled Apps. In a managed workspace, an app may remain a draft until an owner/admin publishes it and grants your role access.

App setup field names can change. If your screen asks for a different OAuth method or a client secret, stop and contact Artifactum support rather than guessing.

Use and check the connection

  1. Open a new ChatGPT web conversation. Use the tools/apps control in the composer to select or enable Artifactum; some versions also let you mention the app by name. OpenAI currently documents ChatGPT custom MCP apps as web-only.
  2. Ask ChatGPT to save a small note to Artifactum, then ask it to find that note. Review and confirm any write prompt before it runs.
  3. Start another new conversation, select Artifactum again if needed, and ask for the note by name. Finding it there confirms the connection works across chats.

Selecting an app may apply only to the current message, depending on the ChatGPT interface. Select or mention it again when a later message needs to call Artifactum. The browser vault at app.artifactum.ai is a separate way to view files; it is not your private MCP address.

If setup does not match these steps

  • No Developer mode or Create option: check workspace policy and ask the workspace owner/admin to enable custom apps or grant access.
  • Tool scan or sign-in fails: verify the vault address and copy the client ID again from your setup email. Do not type it from memory.
  • App is listed but cannot save: select Artifactum for the message, then check workspace app permissions and confirm any write prompt shown by ChatGPT.
  • Still stuck: email hello@artifactum.ai with the ChatGPT surface, plan/workspace type, which step failed, and the exact error. Do not email your access key or password.
